Webstat Marketing is a new company based out of Rockville, Maryland was just started about a year ago. The company was started as a project for my master's degree in Internet Marketing at Full Sail University. Now, what was one a project is now reality and we are officially 'open for business'.

Our goal is to provide local businesses with the highest expertise and customer service with Internet marketing campaigns. Online advertising is exploding since the Internet is the backbone of our information exchange. The world is now flat and local, startup businesses can sell all over the world, and that's where we come in. We aim to give local startup businesses the leverage they need to compete nationally and internationally. We do that by completely understanding all the tools, tricks and resources that are out there. Unlike 'black hat marketers', who have unethical practices that can get great results immediately and your website ban later, our operation focuses on strategically utilizing your budget for short and long term growth.

Renan Augusto
C.E.O. - Webstat Marketing
Rockville, MD

Contact
www.webstatmarketing.com
240.654.9561

Research - Can you trust that web site - some examples

o http://www.akc.org/breeds/poodle/index.cfm
o http://www.standardpoodlesusa.com/
o http://www.dukes-puffs-of-love-poodles.com/
o http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poodle

It was very interesting looking over the four web sites and comparing with regards to reliability, validity and appropriateness to research. The web sites were all very dynamic in comparison. Some web sites clearly stood out as being appropriate, while other lacked identity.

First, http://www.akc.org/breeds/poodle/index.cfm, stood out just because of the branding. American Kennel Club is a reputable brand that is well known. Without an author, it is my assumption that the article belongs to American Kennel Club in general. I would definitely trust the information to be reliable and valid. The finding are valid because the American Kennel Club specializes in the animal industry, and reliable because you can see the dates on the web site. In concurring with most of the class, this would be an excellent article to use in researching.

http://www.standardpoodlesusa.com/
is a person’s blog. The first thing that I noticed was the author stating “I’m by no means an expert in the field, nor am I a breeder, just a Poodle lover”. That statement is not very reassuring from validity prospective. I would better trust the information if the author backed up his facts with references. The blog appears to have little reliability, but I cannot tell you much since there is no date. There are a bunch of articles, and it is my assumption that it is current, but I would have to do more research on them to build a case. This would not be the best web site to use for research.

http://www.dukes-puffs-of-love-poodles.com/
was a joke. Excuse me, but I would not trust any information on that site simple because it looks like a Geocities website, oh, and having Robert Palmer, “Addicted to Love” on the site. You won’t find me looking back.

Now, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poodle, I trust to be a reliable compilation of random authors. Wikipedia is a new, free encyclopedia that is very relevant and definitely reliable. I have used Wikipedia many times for research and also find it to be valid. It is always good practice to be caution, especially when researching online. Unlike Brenda, I do not believe that this site should raise any red flags. It is my belief that you should always be cautions and find the references, which this site has at the bottom. In my opinion, Wikipedia can be one of the best free, relevant, reliable sites to use for research.

In my opinion, Wikipedia and the American Kennel Club have the best web sites to reference from. The contrast was very drastic from the informative website to the home made sites. It is important to look for whether the web site is information driven versus having some other objective.

Pitfalls of Pay Per Click marketing

There are many “pitfalls” to pay per click marketing, if the pay per click marketing is implemented incorrectly, or not properly managed. The article, “Small Business PPC – 26 Mistakes That Cost You” outlined 26 reasons, more were found in Full Sail University’s video, and chapter 6 of the “Search Engine Optimization Bible” went in-depth with the subject. The following is a translation of my suggestions on the grandest “pitfalls”:

The most significant “pitfalls”, in my belief, has been reiterated consistently between the article, the video, the book and some of my classmates. As Jennifer Smith mentioned, “not testing small changes to the same advertisement” can waste a lot of money. It is fascinating that, according to MSN, "Buy Now" will perform 171% better than "click here" in the education sector. Testing, and trial-and-error are what takes a campaign from good to great. Changes and materials have to be revised constantly and managed with quantifiable research.

It ties into what the book said about “You’re not finished with your PPC campaign after you have it set up. PPC is not a one-shot program you can setup and then walk away from and expect to work properly.” To have a successful campaign you have to develop it.

Another huge “pitfall” in pay per click is lacking a target. A target market has to be the focus you your campaign, and your plan must be backed by research corresponding to your customers’ searching habits. The article gave a great example with the topic #8, “Not employing Day Parting”; the author mentioned, “if you're a B to B industry it's likely that you can maximize budget by only running ads 9-5 Monday to Friday.” In my opinion, this idea is not simply brilliant, but it is a perfect example of the focus needed. This is one example of how plans can leak their budget away. It is crucial to target your marketing and reinforce the focus of your execution.

Now, an article on pay per click cannot be finished without talking about keywords. Discovering your keywords or phrases, and measuring them in invaluable. As mentioned previously, campaign requires consistent research and development to be successful. The research that is conducted necessitates proper tools that are invaluable to your successful campaign. The most important tools are landing pages, and conversion tools. These two tools work with each other to give the optimizer the information needed to plan re-actively.

There are various “pitfalls” to pay per click marketing. The materials read outlines many significant details. The topics that were discussed were my opinions of the most significant mistakes.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 has changed the way that we use the Internet, but what does it mean to you?
